Marina is a second generation Pakistani-American. She is a Masters student in Clinical Mental Health and Art Therapy at Wayne State University, and has a minor in Studio Art from Creighton University. Marina seeks to inspire raw artistic expression in others, growth, and healing. Marina’s hope is her work will speak to the viewers and challenge them both intellectually and emotionally. Marina future goal is to help facilitate art as a means of expression and healing for others.
The process of healing from trauma affects not only the mind but the body as well. Marina’s pieces are part of a series titled “Becoming Human”. She feels that her pieces transform deep visceral body sensations/memories into a tangible and visual form. Marina’s pieces seek to explore this relationship between physical and emotional form and break barriers of what was formally expected of figure painting in the past which focused on technical anatomical correctness rather than emotion.
